Dietrich Bonhoeffer: We have no defense against stupidity
Scenario
As the world teeters on the brink of destruction, Dietrich Bonhoeffer becomes involved in a deadly plot to assassinate Hitler, risking his faith and destiny to save millions of Jews from genocide. Niemoeller actor August Diehl previously portrayed a merciless Gestapo officer in Nemilosrdni (2009) and a German citizen who resists conscription into the German army in Skriveni život (2019). It cannot be touched by protest or force.
Arguing is useless
Facts that contradict personal prejudices can simply not be believed – indeed, the stupid can counter them by criticizing them, and if they cannot be refuted, they can be set aside as minor exceptions. As a date night movie for a married couple, it was fine. The cinematography was amazing.
The casting was good; some were even more excellent
But the actual story was terrible, because there were so many points in the movie when we looked at each other and went, “What the hell?” statements and then discussions. Too much hinting and hanging, or convoluted to the point of improbability or absurdity. It was as if the screenwriter kept writing into a corner, then jumped over a very big plot hole or critical detail and moved on to the next scene.
It should come from the actual story itself
You shouldn’t need such a Deus ex Machina when you have a real God in the story! The biggest flaw is that with a real well-documented history like Bonhoeffer’s, emotions should come. It doesn’t come from overacting, pregnant pauses and close tears.
